  The safe treatment and disposal of waste has been a challenge to civilised society since the start of the industrial revolution.
The UK produces around 400 million tonnes of waste annually.
Domestic waste is around 30 million tonnes.
4.8 million tonnes of consigned Hazardous (Special) Waste is produced every year with a further 4.5 million tonnes unconsigned, being kept on site of production.
Specialist Asbestos contractors estimate asbestos waste at 400,000 tonnes per year for at least the next 10 years.
There are an estimated 100,000 contaminated sites in the UK with 3,000,000,000m3 of soil requiring treatment.
The majority of these materials have previously gone to landfill, but space and time is running out.
